WELCOME to the ONLY WORKSHOP in the WORLD DEDICATED to the design and manufacture of EUPHONES

Evolution of the GLASS ARMONICA by Benjamin Franklin (1706 -1790), the EUPHON (EUPHONE in French) is a revolutionary musical instrument invented in 1789 by the physicist Dr. Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni (1756 - 1827), of which he made a first version in 1790.  From his works and those of his successors as "travelling scientists", it is regenerated and magnified in the form of Lasry-Baschet sound structures and sculptures (ORGUE DE VERRE, 1955 / CRISTAL BASCHET 1970). The EUPHONE is today designed by the master craftsman in instrument making and virtuoso Dr. Frédéric Bousquet (1974).

Explorers and adventurers of the world of sound, join us!

« Frederic Bousquet makes euphones of astonishing quality and beauty. Hearing one of his instruments for the first time is the aural equivalent of discovering a new primary colour: it greatly expands the palette of sounds available to contemporary composer/performers ». Jesse Stewart, composer/percussionist, Canada

Occasion

french Cristal / Crystal Baschet 5 octaves

A Vintage gift for Christmas?

The history of this instrument is astonishing: completed in 2012, it was designed by Frédéric Bousquet at the request of Bernard Baschet, who wanted to have the most advanced model resulting from their joint research - a vehicle for 60 years of experimentation and know-how - and whom he would like to see join the Cité de la Musique's collection. As always, this unique specimen conveys certain innovations, such as a thicker soundboard.

The ultimate instrument in the Baschet crystal range designed from 1997 to 2012 by Frédéric Bousquet for François and Bernard Baschet, and in collaboration with them, it is a collector's item whose slightly heterogeneous keyboard and ethereal sound herald new research: homogeneity, sound control, intensity of diffusion, distance between glass bows, materials, etc.

Its manufacture marks a culmination that allows the euphone's manufacture to renew itself, notably through the historiographical and vibroacoustic knowledge acquired since then and to develop, notably from the point of view of sustainable development.

Sound collectors, composers and sound designers, this instrument is for you!

Sale price (base 2010): 24,329 euros excluding tax. (29.195 euros incl. VAT) with transport cases, without damper pedal & shipping. Optional inverted plate*.

(* The double sheet models were reserved for instrument makers and had two different thicknesses).
